Science Odyssey at Hillside Shopping Centre

World Fisheries Trust is teaming up with Hillside Shopping Centre and our community partners to bring you a weekend of Ocean Science at Hillside Mall's Ocean Wall as part of Science Odyssey! Over the weekend, we will be showcasing the amazing efforts being done in our community to protect our oceans and waterways!

Your child may think they’re just having a great time paddling a kayak or riding a horse, but they’re actually connecting with the natural world and learning how to become leaders who protect it.

Utilizing the FUN Approach, our passionate leaders work to connect  FUN Campers with their local environment, expertly pairing traditional camp activities such as hiking, swimming and interactive games with environmental education and exciting adventure activities including whale watching and zip-lining.

This is a scavanger hunt for local resources where participants search for things that will help them survive in the wild. This game pairs well with a conversation about local first nations resource use.

This activity leads children to discover a secret animal, plant, or object through clues, puppets, outdoor exploration and stories.

This is one of our most popular activities that can be adapted for any outdoor environment.  It is a task oriented game that allows students to explore an ecosystem while learning simple facts that lead to the discovery of a mystery animal or plant.

Stream to Sea

Learn more about your local streams and rivers as you study the Pacific Salmon.  A variety of activities and resources introduces students to life in freshwater ecosystems and offers practical ways for them to help conserve these valuable habitats.  As they learn more about the waterways in their community, a new sense of place will empower young citizens to become active stewards of these important places.

Water in Our Community

A Grade 8-12 Learning Resource about drinking water in Greater Victoria.

Today's youth are tomorrow's leaders in the stewardship of our water resources and systems.

"Water in our Community" is a curriculum based teaching resource provided to every secondary school in the Greater Victoria area. Students will learn about their local drinking water supply, management of the drinking water supply lands, urban watersheds, and water quality and water conservation.
